American Management Assocation Announces Launch of the Federal Learning Institute

Government Agencies to Benefit from AMA's Proven Corporate Best Practices

Washington, D.C., May 4, 2006

American Management Association (AMA), a world leader in professional development and performance-based learning solutions, announces the launch of the Federal Learning Institute (FLI). A government services enterprise, FLI is dedicated to educating federal employees and agencies in order to help them meet new performance standards and acquire the critical skills and competencies they need to succeed today and in the future.

In recent years, tens of thousands of government professionals have attended AMA’s public and customized seminars. Bringing 80+ years of success in the business world to the federal arena, AMA’s launch of the Federal Learning Institute is a major commitment to offering specialized solutions designed specifically for these government professionals.

These interactive, hands-on and results-oriented programs include “Building Better Work Relationships in a Government Environment,” “Fundamentals of Federal Contract Management” and “Strategic Planning for Government Leaders.” A dedicated Website outlining AMA’s products and services for federal employees is located at www.amanet.org/government.

“Given the increasingly complex demands on government employees, right now is the perfect time for us to be announcing the development of our government services arm and expanding the roster of our high-level training programs,” said Edward Reilly, president and CEO of American Management Association. “We look forward to providing improved management skills to many thousands of federal employees.”

The FLI will be led by Executive Director Richard Morton. Morton joined AMA in July 2005 and has been instrumental in developing FLI’s new curriculum for government professionals. In 2001, he became director of the Washington Training Center and, in 2002, he became its chief of Classroom Operations.

Prior to this, Morton was a colonel in the U.S. Army; he also served in the Maryland Army National Guard and the Active Guard and Reserve. During his military career, Morton graduated from Command and General Staff College and the Army War College, as well as earning his bachelor of science and master’s degrees.

“We are excited about our launch and look forward to furthering the excellent service AMA has provided to the public sector for decades,” Morton said. “Ensuring that those working in the public sector have the managerial tools to be prepared for the challenges they face on a daily basis is our main goal.”
